About Project

When it was time for Horiba, a scientific instrument manufacturer headquartered in Japan, to relocate and expand their Nevada operations, we transformed a nine-year-old tilt-up concrete warehouse and office space into an amazing new facility. 

Horiba needed upgraded infrastructure tailored specifically to better serve their substantially growing business. The team modified the existing office layout and added new modern finishes to meet the client’s décor requirements which included efficiency and worker comfort. Upon entering the facility guests are greeted with an elegant display of Horiba’s motto — Joy and fun — written in Japanese on a wall display. To further incorporate Horiba’s corporate branding, crews installed frameless glass wall systems and double corner windows to increase visual interest and spatial connections.

The space is also lighted with multiple tubular skylights that add daylighting to lobby and workspaces. To further make use of natural lighting throughout, the design includes 10-foot-tall bi-parting cantilevered corner sliding glass doors, which welcome colleagues and clients into the main meeting room. The addition of these glass doors required the team to enhance the wall structures to support the weight of the glass and maintain smooth and level operation.

Throughout pre-construction and construction of this design-build project, the client, architect, key subcontractors and the construction team met each week to plan and coordinate the fast-track schedule including procurement. Horiba requested that the new facility be online in advance to showcase the new facility to Horiba’s management team visiting from corporate headquarters in Japan. The tight timeline meant the team had no margin for late deliveries or manpower issues. We completed the project within the budget and on schedule and helped ensure that the client’s big event took place as planned. We are excited to be working with Horiba and the designer on phase II, adding a laboratory to the facility.
