The Nevada Legislative Building’s significant expansion and modernization, constructed by Plenium Builders, is completing interior improvements for the 2025 legislative session beginning February 3rd. Exterior work will resume after the 83rd Session is completed. The project features a 13,000-square-foot addition, including state-of-the-art security upgrades, new meeting spaces, and a modernized west-side entrance. Visitors and lawmakers will also benefit from the addition of food service facilities and a new lobby with a grand staircase.

“We’re honored to partner with the Legislative Council Bureau to deliver a high-quality, significantly improved interior of the Legislative Building for the 2025 session,” said Tobin Basta, President of Plenium Builders. “The final product is something that all Nevadans will be proud of for decades to come.”

Key features of the renovation and expansion, designed by Paul Cavin, Architect and Ethos Three Architecture, include:

  • Modernized West Entrance: The new lobby includes a “blast box” security portal and cutting-edge X-ray and scanning equipment, ensuring safety while maintaining accessibility.

  • Granite Exterior: Quarried from the Sierra Nevada, the granite veneer adds a stately and durable touch to the building’s façade.

  • Enhanced Meeting Spaces: Newly designed rooms feature elegant wood millwork, stone surfaces, and advanced lighting and audio/visual systems, addressing a long-standing need for breakout spaces.

  • Improved Amenities: A new deli provides convenient food service for lawmakers and visitors during sessions.

  • Upgraded Courtyard: The expanded courtyard features new landscaping, security bollards, and infrastructure for large outdoor events.

The exterior renovations, featuring the addition of a classic granite façade, will be paused during the legislative session and resume post-session as planned, with an estimated completion by the end of 2025.

Plenum Builders engaged a wide range of partners to deliver the project on time and on budget, including Martin Iron Works, Intermountain Electric, RHP Mechanical, FW Carson, NV Concrete, Capital Glass, Kawcak Masonry, Western Single Ply, M&H Building Specialties.
