An Ambitious Upgrade for a Legacy Campus

The halls of Edward C. Reed High School in Sparks are preparing for a transformation that goes far beyond a fresh coat of paint. Built in the 1970s, the campus has served generations of students—but now it’s being reimagined to meet the needs of modern education and support today’s learners, staff, and programs.

A Strategic CM-at-Risk Partnership

The Washoe County School District selected Plenium Builders as the CM-at-Risk partner to guide this ambitious project from early planning through construction. The effort includes 70,000 square feet of new construction and the renovation of approximately 90,000 square feet within the 237,000-square-foot school. Importantly, this modernization is being completed while the school remains open, requiring careful phasing, proactive coordination, and a strong emphasis on safety.

A Design Focused on Safety, Flexibility, and Function

Working alongside Collaborative Design Studio, the team has developed a campus-wide upgrade strategy that prioritizes student safety, learning environments, and functionality. The expanded footprint will introduce new facilities for athletics, band, classrooms, and a student hub. Portable buildings will be removed entirely. A renovated administration wing with a secure single-point entry will anchor the campus, with upgrades throughout the corridors, restrooms, media center, and athletic areas.

Sitewide Enhancements for a Modern Learning Environment

Safety improvements are woven throughout the design, including updated fire alarm systems, new access control and security cameras, and robust perimeter fencing. Site enhancements include an overhauled courtyard designed for outdoor learning and gathering, as well as modernized athletic fields and infrastructure upgrades such as new internal waste lines.

Smart Planning for Ongoing Operations

With phased construction set to begin in 2025, Plenium Builders is leveraging preconstruction insights to shape a schedule that keeps the school community informed and operations uninterrupted. The team’s approach emphasizes constructability, flexibility, and the long-term maintainability of every decision—ensuring the school district’s investment supports future growth, not just present needs.

A Campus Reimagined Through Partnership

From behind-the-scenes coordination to visible improvements that redefine the campus experience, the Reed High School modernization is more than a project. It’s a promise to the community—one built on planning, partnership, and performance.
