Timeless Elegance Above Lake Tahoe
Perched on 210 acres with sweeping views of Lake Tahoe, this extraordinary estate blends luxury living, resort-style amenities, and historical charm. The sprawling 48,000-square-foot property includes eight meticulously designed buildings, all crafted to exude the elegance of a century-old retreat while incorporating the latest in modern efficiencies. Completed in just 28 months, the estate stands as a remarkable achievement in high-end custom home construction, built at 6,500 feet in elevation through two challenging mountain winters.
A Grand Welcome
The centerpiece of the property, a 27,000-square-foot main house, showcases architectural artistry and fine finishes rarely seen in residential construction. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a grand staircase inspired by the R.M.S. Titanic, crowned by a replica of the ship’s bent-glass dome. Artisans painstakingly recreated the staircase using measurements, photographs, and molds of the original design, sourced from England’s White Swan Hotel.
Spaces Inspired by History
Throughout the home, richly detailed spaces take inspiration from iconic locations. The cigar lounge evokes the charm of New York’s St. Regis Hotel, while the billiard parlor features a library overlook framed by an emerald-green stained-glass ceiling and curved, coffered wood paneling. The great room, with its soaring 30-foot copper-clad windows and exposed beams, feels like a castle’s grand hall. Other highlights include a gold-leafed dining room ceiling, a master suite with panoramic lake views, and luxurious amenities like an onyx-lined powder room, arcade, golf simulator, and 19-seat theater.
A Journey Beneath the Surface
A winding three-story staircase leads to the wine cellar, guarded by a 1,000-pound iron door from the Hearst collection. Beyond, a rock-lined tunnel illuminated by torch sconces opens into the 5,000-square-foot conservatory. Here, a glass-tile pool and spa sit beneath a retractable skylight, overlooking Tranquility Lake, a private 5-acre centerpiece of the estate.
The Surrounding Estate
Additional structures include a guesthouse, caretaker quarters, an art studio with a kiln, a gymnasium with locker rooms, horse stables, and a lakeside pavilion. Each building balances historical charm with functional modern design, offering the perfect blend of comfort and sophistication.
Craftsmanship and Historical Details
The design seamlessly integrates salvaged and replicated historical finishes sourced from the clients’ world travels, including 17th-century wood flooring, antique terra cotta tiles, carved corbels, statues, and hand-cast fixtures. Sophisticated systems for HVAC, plumbing, and electrical were coordinated with the precision of a commercial property, accommodating the estate’s unique details, such as domed ceilings, skylights, curved soffits, and intricate murals.
Luxury and History in Harmony
This estate embodies high-end whole-home remodeling on an unprecedented scale, blending modern craftsmanship with historical charm to create a timeless retreat above Lake Tahoe. With its combination of luxurious amenities and meticulous attention to detail, the property stands as a true masterpiece of custom home construction.
