The previous owners had not made significant modifications to this hotel-to-condominium conversion. Our clients saw the potential to personalize their aerie with meaningful finishes.
They enlisted the help of Aspen Leaf interiors to redesign the kitchen and bathrooms using bold tile patterns, soothing colors, and reclaimed-wood features. Plenium Builders led the general contracting for the project.
The clients sourced the wood materials—used in the feature walls in the kitchen and dining area and for faux “beams” along the ceiling—from a Napa, CA winery. Charles Krug Winery, declared a historic place in 1973, recently dismantled several two-story, 80-year-old redwood aging tanks and, through a personal connection, one of the homeowners snapped up some of the salvaged staves. She finished the wood herself with a clear coat to protect the wood and enhance the texture. Plenium Builders’ team installed them on the walls, lined the custom-built, temperature-controlled, 250-bottle wine cellar, and used them to create electrical chases to work around the challenge presented by the building’s post-tensioned structure, maximizing the ceiling height and eliminating costly and messy concrete cutting.
The floors were also a challenge because the existing surfaces were not level. Crews applied leveling compound to ensure the highest quality installation for the luxury vinyl plank flooring. Kitchen tile is a mix of stone textures and metals, including copper. The serene, natural theme continues in the laminate of the new cabinetry and the tile surface patterns and colors in the bathrooms, which were completely gutted and made over with new fittings and fixtures.
The finished project reflects the natural elements of the sweeping river and mountain views as well as the art and vitality of downtown, urban living. The result is a light-filled, open-plan space that feels at once like a forever home and a weekend getaway.
