In September of 2023, Lauren Jilot, a Life Scout with Boy Scouts of America from BSA Troop 55 in Reno approached Plenium Builders (along with her mom) with a request for help improving her community. She had uncovered an urgent need to repair the bridge at the Old Rosewood Golf Course. Its aging deck surface—repaired multiple times with plywood—was impeding full-sized vehicles (including emergency vehicles) from crossing and limiting access to the Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation (TMPF) Rosewood Nature Study trail. She made it her Eagle Project, a leadership-based Scout activity to help TMPF fund and manage the needed repairs.

Lauren's five-page project brief included sketches, a proposed schedule, and material selections for the 100-foot-long, 10-foot-wide bridge. She investigated permit requirements and got the permission she needed from local authorities and TMPF. Thinking ahead about logistics, she snipped views from Google Earth and reviewed the paths of travel. She engaged her own team of volunteers to clear the road of debris and brush to provide construction access. Lauren held fundraisers and arranged donations for the bridge repair project.

PB's estimator worked with Tahoe Truckee Lumber to develop a material estimate. After learning more about the leadership on Lauren’s part and the benefit to the community, TTL provided the new material at ½ cost. Plenium Builders donated our carpenters' time to complete the work. They re-decked the bridge, replacing straps, ties, screws, and bolts. As a bonus, the repairs add access to overflow event parking and storage, and make it easier to maintain the trails.

The team was excited about the result of this Scout’s efforts, an updated and useful bridge with clear access. A small contribution, but a big project for us. Thank you, Lauren, for the exceptional project management and for your commitment to improving our community!
