This is not just a housing project. It is a transformative initiative aimed at breaking the cycle of generational poverty and addressing the pressing challenges of affordable housing and skilled labor in our region. Spearheaded by Friends in Service Helping (FISH), a respected organization with 43 years of service, this project involves the demolition of an existing motel and the construction of two mirrored apartment buildings with 36 apartments.

The goal is to provide stable housing and wrap-around services for underemployed individuals seeking college-level technical certifications, preparing them for higher-paying jobs and fostering regional economic growth.

Focused on empowering single parent families and other eligible individuals, the program offers comprehensive support throughout their technical training journey. Partnering with reputable institutions like Western Nevada College, the project offers training in various fields such as healthcare, information technology, construction management, HVAC, CDL truck driving, and more.

The FISH Student Housing Project represents a significant step in revitalizing Carson City's downtown and workforce while transforming the lives of families. Through funding sources like HUD vouchers and Pell grants, FISH and its partners will ensure that participants have the necessary support to graduate and secure meaningful employment. As students establish themselves in their new careers, they will transition to other housing, making room for the next generation of learners to benefit from this life-changing program. FISH is proud to drive positive change in society and create a brighter future for our community.
