The client and designer had a vision: to transform this 1990s Tahoe home into a serene, modern retreat while respecting its original character. Plenium Builders brought the expertise to make it happen, updating the home’s aesthetic while preserving key elements like structural log posts and ceiling paneling. The result is a warm, minimalist haven that perfectly balances rustic charm with contemporary sophistication.
First Floor Transformation
The remodel began with strategic enhancements on the first floor, where PB added a functional mudroom and reimagined the entry and foyer areas. New flooring and carefully placed accent lighting softened the transition from outdoors to indoors, creating an inviting first impression. A ceiling infill above the foyer, previously open to the second floor, introduced a more intimate feel. Custom hardwood stair treads with metal risers add modern appeal, blending seamlessly with the home’s natural materials.
Elevated Design on the Second Floor
On the second floor, PB executed a full kitchen and laundry remodel, embodying the client’s taste for clean lines and natural textures. Grain-matched walnut cabinetry and floor-to-ceiling book-matched slabs bring a stunning visual continuity to the kitchen, while a new powder bathroom and custom fireplace enrich the main living area. Existing arched doorways were squared off, introducing contemporary lines that align with the minimalist vision and enhancing the flow between spaces.
Refined Comfort on the Third Floor
PB transformed the master bathroom and family room on the third floor, creating a space that feels luxurious yet understated. In the master bath, book-matched slabs extend floor-to-ceiling, adding an impressive organic feature, while floating vanities with backlit slabs and custom gunmetal grey fixtures echo the home’s modern, natural character. The design carefully considers each detail, blending elegance with simplicity.
Thoughtful Lighting Integration
To complete the look, a dedicated lighting designer worked with PB to incorporate layered lighting elements that blend seamlessly with the original ceiling paneling. These carefully integrated lights accentuate architectural details, highlighting the home’s natural warmth and enhancing the ambiance to create a space that feels both timeless and innovative.
